This is more of a photo essay than a post. Not too much to write.

Been to this temple on outskirts of Vadodara city recently. The temple – actually, a temple complex – stands on a piece of land adjacent to Vadodara refinery.The work was still in progress.

They have named it Tapovan.

I was told that the temple is being constructed by the current and ex employees of the refinery through voluntary contributions. The whole thing looks quite grand for it. It is a number of temples, built in assorted styles typical to various architectural traditions of India. But the overall look is pure kitsch!

The roof has been painted with scenes from Hindu mythology. This is a departure from traditional temple architecture, as far as I know.
